In March of 2008, before we even opened our facility, we looked at every bedding option available. Through all of our phone calls and research, we decided on PermaStall Plus. The product is the softest, lowest maintenance bedding available, making it the best choice for our rehab horses. It is also fire resistant and reduces our waste pile. With over 100 million tons of rice produced a year, rice hulls are a natural, renewable resource. More impressive is that despite the vast amounts of rice produce, using rice hulls can reduce a facilities’ muck by 70 percent. Essentially PermaStall Plus is a kitty litter for horses. Unlike wood or other shavings, the hulls slip right through the rake so they remain in the stall and don’t end up wasted in the haul-off pile. If you remove the solid waste twice a day from the stall, you can leave the wet spot there for days or even weeks - it all depends on the horse, the size of the stall and the time of year. Urine is quickly dissipated from the treated product and damp, wet smelly areas are virtually eliminated. The bedding is quite soft and horses that normally have hock sores or other skin problems show much improvement sleeping on the PermaStall Plus. Once the bedding is installed, the need to add more is usually minimal. Less to haul off helps reduce maintenance cost and cuts labor expenses.
