Our Equine Solarium
| |
In our continuing effort to bring the finest equine healing equipment to the west coast, Premier Equine Center is proud to have added California's only equine solarium. Our solarium is a new design, not the traditional hanging type that requires a horse to be restrained. Our relaxing solarium allows a horse to be free in a comfortable stall. A typical session in our solarium only lasts around 20 minutes!

What Is An Equine Solarium?
| |
Infrared light therapy has been used over the past decade in many different forms. Most forms are small machines that target only specific areas of a horse or can take hours to complete a full session. What if the infrared light therapy can be absorbed by the whole horse in a short period of time and benefit the horse in many different ways? That is exactly what a equine solarium does.
A equine solarium uses short wavelength infrared heat. The infrared heat is the same type that is put off by the sun, only with out the harmful UV rays. Sun light has been proven to stimulate the immune system and provide vitamin D. Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium and phosphates, the building blocks of strong, healthy bones. The series of infrared light heaters in our solarium is strategically placed to cover the entire body of the horse. The varying light sizes radiates different frequencies of light that are absorbed by the horse while it relaxes in its stall.

How Does An Equine Solarium Work?
| |
The therapeutic effects of infrared heat is well documented in books on equine healing and therapy. Heat increases metabolic activity in cells, which causes an increase in oxygen. The results is capillary dilation which increases the amount of blood that brings oxygen and nutrients to the area. Membrane diffusion and enzymatic activity also increase, which enable oxygen consumption.
To explain it a little more simply, the heat penetrates the skin into the underlying muscle tissue and helps to stimulate blood flow due to the warmth, thus increasing circulation throughout the body. The increased circulation improves muscle elasticity, which helps with the reduction of injuries and speeds up the recovery process.
